Thank you to everyone who joined us for the "Focus on Basic Survival Skills 0-2" video conference call. We hope you found it valuable, especially in relation to teaching survival skills for open water environments.
A special thank you to our guest speakers, Megan Farndale (Aquatic Education Manager, Swimming Waikato) and Kirstie Nash (Senior Swim School Senior Swim School Instructor for CLM Massey Park). We are grateful for their insights on evolving approaches to teaching open water skills. It was inspiring to hear about the changes they have made and how their innovations can help shape our own teaching methods.
Together, we can equip the children we teach with the tools and knowledge they need to safely navigate New Zealand’s diverse and often unpredictable aquatic environments. Water Skills for Life prioritises basic water survival competencies, giving children a stronger chance of survival when the unexpected happens.
